Five Steps To Writing A Great College Essay

Step One: Pick a Topic
Working with the Common App prompts, supplemental essay questions and our own idea-generating techniques, we will help you brainstorm a topic that will highlight your strengths and showcase your personality. With our guidance, you will avoid the general and generic topics that cause admissions counselors to doze off. Instead, you'll unearth a topic that is revealing, authentic and memorable.
Tip: Don't write a report. Tell a story.

Step Two: First Draft
The first draft is your chance to write without over-thinking, self-censoring or worrying about being judged. We'll provide guidelines but the most important rule is not to follow any rules.
Tip: Your computer is an inanimate object incapable of critique. Fill the screen with random, unfiltered  thoughts and ideas.

Step Three:
Second Draft

You'll take the detailed feedback and instructions received from your first draft and begin to tighten  your theme and focus on structure. You'll  incorporate the specific examples, vivid scenes and descriptive language that will bring your story to life.
Tip: Playing with a yoyo gets your brain going. It's also fun.

Step Four: Third Draft
Incorporating the edits from your second draft, we'll help you polish this draft making sure your opening pulls the reader in, your thoughts flow and your tone is upbeat and engaging.
Tip: Omit fussy sounding words like "thus," "therefore" and "in conclusion."

Step Five: Final draft
We will review your final draft word by word, line by line to make sure that it's polished to perfection.
Tip: You did it! Pat yourself on the back and go have some fun.
