About Take the Leap
Hyla Finn created Take the Leap College Essay Coaching to provide individualized writing and editing services to students who are navigating the stressful and pressure-filled task of college essay writing. Hyla helps students craft essays that will showcase their talents, strengths and personality and make them stand out in the highly competitive world of college admissions. Hyla has expanded Take the Leap to include college admission consulting. She guides students and their parents through the entire application process from college list selection to navigating the Common and Coalition applications.
As a professional writer, Hyla's personal essays about the trials, tribulations and hilarity of everyday life have been featured in national publications such as The New York Times, Self, Parents, Italian Glamour, Salon.com, Working Mother and the soon-to-be released book, Chicken Soup for the Soul: the Power of Yes! In addition, Hyla has created website content for clients in diverse fields ranging from fashion and financial planning to interior design and talent management.
Before dedicating herself full-time to writing, Hyla spent more than a decade as the co-owner of a nationally distributed apparel line. Prior to that, she worked in beauty/fashion editorial for a national women's magazine, retail buying for a national retailer, and public relations promoting retail clients. Hyla graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Communication from the Annenberg School for Communication. She has a certificate in creative nonfiction from Northwestern University and is currently enrolled in the Independent Educational Consulting Certificate program at the University of California-Irvine.
Hyla lives in Chicago with her husband and twin daughters.
